Tuesday, 19 September 2023 Today’s Word of Hope:My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry. James 1:19 (NIV) In the Bible, Moses exhibited empathy and concern for the people. During their journey through the wilderness, Moses would sit from sunrise to evening to listen to the people’s problems and settle disputes. He wanted to directly grasp his people’s needs, disputes, and aspirations, which was physically taxing. When Moses’ father-in-law saw this, he advised Moses to identify leaders and build a system to solve the people’s complaints according to their complexity. Moses took his father-in-law’s guidance and developed a leadership and judgment system. He appointed qualified leaders to assist him and established a judicial hierarchy to hear and resolve the people’s problems. Moses’ approach revealed humility and a genuine concern for the welfare of the people he led. He knew that leadership entailed more than just issuing instructions; it also entailed understanding the community’s needs and frustrations. He was willing to listen to and act on sound counsel. Questions for Reflection: 1. In your leadership roles or personal life, how good are you at listening to the concerns and needs of those with whom you interact? 2. Do you listen to the advice of others regarding your leadership style and strategies? # Be empathetic to the problems of others.# Be humble enough to listen to good counsel from trustworthy sources.# Then, you will not stumble. Prayer: Lord Jesus, please help me be a good listener to the concerns of others around me and my well-wishers. Amen.
