Friday, 22 September 2023 Today’s Word of Hope:Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy. Matthew 5:7 (NIV) In the Old Testament of the Holy Bible, we read about Joseph, who suffered greatly from jealousy of his brothers. They threw him into a pit and then sold him as a slave to Egypt. His future became uncertain. However, God changed the situation in Joseph’s favor. Joseph’s gift of dream interpretation caught the attention of Pharaoh, the ruler of Egypt. Joseph’s wisdom and leadership earned him the position of second-in-command over all of Egypt. Years later, during a severe famine, Joseph’s brothers came to Egypt seeking food. They had to meet Joseph for food. Though Joseph recognized them, they did not recognize him. Rather than seeking revenge for their past betrayal, Joseph was deeply moved by compassion. He bought food for his family, told them who he was, and forgave his brothers while hugging them with tears of joy. Questions for Personal Reflection: 1. Have you ever faced betrayal or mistreatment from others, and how did you respond in similar situations? 2. Reflect on an experience in your life when you showed mercy or were the recipient of mercy. How did this act of kindness impact your relationships and your own sense of well-being? * This story highlights the transformative power of mercy and forgiveness and the unexpected blessings of reconciliation and joy. * Let us be forgiving and merciful, specifically as Jesus forgave us. Prayer: Lord Jesus, please help me to exhibit mercy towards others around me. Amen.
