Monday, 21 August 2023 Today’s Word of Hope:Finally, all of you, be like-minded, be sympathetic, love one another, be compassionate and humble. 1 Peter 3:8 (NIV) * The verse mentioned above echoes the call to be empathetic and compassionate.* Empathy is the ability to put yourself in another person’s shoes and see the world through their eyes.* In a world often marked by self-interest, practicing empathy and compassion becomes a beautiful testament to our faith. The story in Luke 7 of Jesus and His disciples coming across a funeral procession in the city of Nain is a remarkable demonstration of empathy and compassion. It was the funeral procession of a widow’s only son. She was not only facing the grief of losing her only son but also the fear of an uncertain future. Moved with compassion, Jesus approached the grieving mother and said, “Don’t cry.” He then raised her son from the dead, restoring his life and her hope. This act of compassion did not just demonstrate Christ’s power over death but also His compassion for people who suffer and His willingness to bring solace in times of sorrow. * Just as Jesus stepped into the widow’s situation, you too can extend empathy by standing alongside those who are hurting and showing them Christ’s love through your actions.* When you do this, you align yourselves with the heart of Jesus, becoming vessels of His love in a world that desperately needs it. Prayer: Lord Jesus, please help me to be empathetic to those who are going through pain and suffering. Amen.
