The Pause Before the Peak 🏔️
Today’s Word: 📖 “So we fasted and petitioned our God about this, and he answered our prayer.” — Ezra 8:23 (NIV)
The expedition team stood at the base of the formidable mountain pass. The weather report was unpredictable, and the trail ahead was known for sudden, dangerous rockslides. While other climbers rushed past them, eager to conquer the summit in their own strength, the team leader made an unexpected call: they would pitch their tents and wait. They spent the next twenty-four hours fasting from their heavy trail rations and turning off their devices, dedicating their quiet hours to studying the terrain and consulting the veteran guide. It looked like wasted time to the onlookers, but when they finally began their ascent, they moved with a unified focus and a clear path that kept them safe when a sudden storm rolled in. 🥾
In the same way, we often face daunting journeys—big decisions, difficult transitions, or spiritual battles—and our instinct is to rush forward relying on our own strength and speed. But Ezra reminds us of the power of pausing to fast and petition. Fasting is not about earning God’s favor; it is about clearing away our physical comforts to declare our complete dependence on Him. When we intentionally slow down to seek Him first, He hears our cries and secures our steps.
Response: 🚶♂️ Today, choose one thing to fast from—whether a meal, social media, or entertainment—and use that reclaimed time to petition God for guidance in your current situation.
Prayer: 🙏 Lord God, help me to pause and seek Your face before I rush into the challenges ahead. I lay down my self-reliance and trust that You will hear my prayers and guide my path safely. Amen.
