Tired of carrying an anxious heart

“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you.”

John 14:27 (ESV)

Today's Reflection

The Internal Soundproofing 🎧

Today’s Word: 📖 “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you.” — John 14:27 (ESV)

Aaron pulled the bulky noise-canceling headphones off his ears, letting them drop onto his desk with a dull thud. He stared at the glowing monitor, the endless paragraphs of the project proposal blurring together. He had shut the home office door, closed the window against the afternoon traffic, and put on the headset, desperate to manufacture a moment of calm before a massive restructuring meeting the next morning.

His wife, Sarah, walked in, setting a glass of water near his keyboard. “Still trying to block out the world?”

Aaron rubbed his tired eyes. “I just need ten minutes of absolute quiet so I can stop panicking about tomorrow. But the quieter the room gets, the louder my mind feels.”

Sarah rested a hand on the back of his chair. “Maybe the quiet you need isn’t something you can create with headphones, Aaron.”

Have you ever tried to manufacture your own peace, only to find that the silence just amplifies your internal anxiety?

We often treat peace like an environmental condition we have to carefully curate. We assume that if we can just eliminate enough stress, quiet the noise, and gain control of our circumstances, our anxiety will finally subside. But Jesus offers a radically different kind of tranquility. When He promised His peace to the disciples, they were standing on the edge of unimaginable chaos. He didn’t promise to soundproof their lives; He promised to anchor their souls. The peace of Christ is not the fragile absence of trouble. It is the deep, unshakable presence of God within you, holding you steady even when the room is loud and the future is uncertain.

If your mind is racing today and your attempts to quiet the chaos feel entirely useless, you are not alone. Our Father hears the noise you are battling, and He offers a stillness that circumstances cannot break. Let’s ask Him for that true peace together:

Lord Jesus, I am so tired of trying to manufacture my own calm. When the pressure of tomorrow looms large and my mind feels too loud to bear, forgive me for relying on my own flimsy methods to block out the anxiety. Please step into my racing thoughts and give me the peace that only You can provide. Be my internal anchor when the world around me refuses to quiet down. Amen.
