Give yourself the grace to keep learning

“But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.”

2 Peter 3:18 (NIV)

Today's Reflection

The Unseen Roots 🌱

Today’s Word: 📖 “But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” — 2 Peter 3:18 (NIV)

Miriam knelt on the concrete patio, staring at the spindly lemon tree sapling in its terracotta pot. She had followed the watering schedule and soil instructions for six weeks, yet the few leaves it possessed looked dull, and there wasn’t a single sign of new growth. She rocked back on her heels, wiping a smudge of dirt from her forehead.

“I don’t get it,” Miriam sighed, wrapping her hands around the warm ceramic. “I’m doing everything right. It feels like it’s just frozen in time while everyone else’s gardens are thriving.”

Her friend, Abby, watching this from behind, pointed to the base of the trunk. “You can’t see the roots from up here, Miriam. It’s building a foundation before it focuses on the fruit.”

Do you ever look at your own spiritual progress and feel like you are standing still? We often expect instant maturity, projecting a rushed timeline onto our relationship with God. When we stumble over familiar flaws, we assume our faith is failing. But the command to grow in grace is an invitation to a lifelong journey, not a sudden transformation. God is more interested in establishing resilient roots in your heart than He is in forcing a quick canopy of leaves. Grace covers the unpolished seasons of your faith while He does the unseen work beneath the surface.

If you are discouraged by your pace today, bring that frustration to Him with me:

Dear Lord Jesus, forgive me for demanding instant perfection instead of trusting Your steady process. When I feel frustrated by my lack of visible growth, remind me that You are doing a vital work in my roots. Give me the patience to grow in Your grace, one day at a time. Amen.
