Shelter in the Storm 🌧️
Today’s Word: 📖 “May the Lord, the God of Israel, under whose wings you have come to take refuge, reward you fully.” — Ruth 2:12 (NLT)
Hannah ripped the final strip of packing tape off a cardboard box, the harsh screech echoing in the small, unfamiliar living room. Outside, rain lashed against the windowpane, mirroring the storm of doubt swirling in her chest. She had left a secure but deeply toxic job to start over in a new city, and tonight, the sheer weight of that decision felt crushing. Her phone buzzed against the bare kitchen counter. It was her sister, Leah.
“How’s the new place?” Leah asked gently over the speaker.
Hannah sighed, sinking onto the cold floorboards. “It’s quiet. Honestly, Leah, I’m terrified. What if I made a massive mistake?”
“You didn’t,” Leah replied firmly. “You stepped out of a bad place to find peace. Just give it time to feel like home.”
Yes! It is relatively easy to celebrate the idea of a fresh start when we are dreaming about it from a safe distance. But when the boxes are actually unpacked and the reality of the unknown sets in, our brave leaps of faith can suddenly feel like reckless mistakes. Like Ruth in the Bible, gleaning in a foreign field, stepping into God’s refuge, often requires us to leave behind what is familiar, even if the familiar was slowly breaking us. True refuge doesn’t always look like immediate comfort; sometimes it looks like an empty room where God is simply asking you to trust Him with the next chapter. He sees the courage it took to seek shelter under His wings, and He is faithful to provide for you there.
Let go of the need to have the whole picture figured out tonight, and let’s pray together:
Dear Lord Jesus, when the transition feels lonely and my choices feel daunting, remind me that I am safe beneath Your wings. Thank You for providing a quiet refuge for my weary heart; please give me the courage to trust You with my new beginning. Amen.
