Run back to God as your safe refuge,...

“Return to your fortress, you prisoners of hope; even now I announce that I will restore twice as much to you.”

Zechariah 9:12 (NIV)

Today's Reflection

The Baker’s Sanctuary 🍞

Today’s Word: 📖 “Return to your fortress, you prisoners of hope; even now I announce that I will restore twice as much to you.” — Zechariah 9:12 (NIV)

Maya stood in the muddy ruins of her small bakery after a devastating flash flood. It felt as though years of hard work had washed away in a single afternoon. Instead of giving up, she retreated to her home kitchen—her quiet sanctuary—to keep baking. Though she had no storefront, she refused to abandon her calling, jokingly calling herself a “prisoner of optimism” as she kneaded dough by hand in the safety of her home. Maya decided to hold onto hope instead of giving up on despair. Months later, she was able to reopen thanks to unexpected community support and insurance. Her new bakery was even bigger than the old one, with twice as many ovens and a line of customers all the way down the street. 🏰

Likewise, we may find ourselves facing seasons of sudden loss or grief where we feel trapped by our circumstances. Yet, God invites us to run to Him as our secure fortress and remain “prisoners of hope”—willingly bound to the expectation of His goodness rather than the gravity of our grief. When we refuse to let go of our trust in Him, He promises not just to patch up what was broken but to restore us with double blessing and joy.

Response: 🚶‍♂️ Identify one area of loss or disappointment in your life today, and consciously hand it over to God, choosing to hope in His power to restore.

Prayer: 🙏 Lord, when life strips away what I have built, help me run to You as my fortress. Keep me anchored in hope, trusting that You are already working to restore more than I have lost. Amen.
