When the climb ahead feels too steep,...

“The Sovereign Lord is my strength; he makes my feet like the feet of a deer.”

Habakkuk 3:19 (NIV)

Today's Reflection

The Surefooted Step 🦌

Today’s Word: 📖 “The Sovereign Lord is my strength; he makes my feet like the feet of a deer.” — Habakkuk 3:19 (NIV)

Rebecca balanced a precarious stack of textbooks as she stepped over a roll of exposed carpet padding in the hallway of the elementary school. The district’s summer renovation had run wildly behind schedule, leaving her new classroom a chaotic maze of drop cloths, unbolted desks, and wet paint. She nearly tripped over a stray extension cord, catching herself against the doorframe just in time.

Her co-teacher, Miles, looked up from a box of art supplies and winced. “Careful. It’s an obstacle course in here today.”

Rebecca set the books down on a dusty windowsill, brushing chalk dust from her sleeves. “I just want a normal start to the year. Every time I figure out where things go, the contractors move a wall or tear up another floorboard. I feel like I’m constantly losing my footing.”

Miles handed her a damp paper towel. “We can’t fix the floors, Rebecca. But we can just watch where we step today.”

Has your own life felt like an unpredictable obstacle course lately? When we walk through a season of constant transition—navigating a sudden career shift, a complex family dynamic, or a time when the rules seem to change daily—we often pray for God to flatten the path and clear the debris. We desperately want stability. But Habakkuk reveals that God provides a different kind of strength. He gives us the feet of a deer, equipping us to tread safely upon the heights. Rather than instantly removing the treacherous terrain, He makes you surefooted in the middle of it. His grace gives you the balance to navigate the chaos without falling.

If the ground beneath you feels unstable today, you don’t have to figure out the rest of the path alone. Let’s bring this to the Lord together. He holds us fast:

Dear Lord Jesus, when the path ahead is cluttered and the ground beneath me feels unstable, thank You for being my strength. Provide me with the confidence and assurance I need to safely navigate this challenging and hazardous environment. Amen.
