Beyond the Numbers 🦁
Today’s Word: 📖 “He rescues and saves his people; he performs miraculous signs and wonders.” — Daniel 6:27 (NLT)
Marcus sat at the dining room table, the harsh glow of his laptop illuminating a stack of final notices. The recent supply chain delays had finally caught up with his small manufacturing business, and the math simply didn’t work anymore. He buried his face in his hands, listening to the quiet hum of the refrigerator. His wife, Elena, walked in and gently placed a hand on his shoulder. “Marcus, you’ve been staring at those same spreadsheets for three hours.” He looked up, his eyes bloodshot and heavy. “I just don’t see a way out of this, El. We need a miracle, or we lose the shop by Friday.” She squeezed his shoulder. “Then let’s stop trying to force the math, and start asking for one.”
Consider the context of King Darius’s decree in the book of Daniel. God didn’t prevent Daniel from being thrown into the lions’ den, nor did He hand him a weapon to fight his way out. Instead, God stepped into that impossible, dark space and simply shut the lions’ mouths. We often spend our energy frantically crunching numbers or plotting escape routes when our circumstances look doomed. But God is a rescuer, which means He specializes in situations that require rescuing. When logic fails and the odds are stacked against you, you are in the exact environment where His miraculous power shines brightest.
Let go of the need to manufacture your own escape route today, open your hands, and pray with me:
Dear Lord Jesus, when I am facing my own lions’ den and the numbers just don’t add up, remind me that You are a God of miracles. Help me to stop relying on my own frantic calculations and instead trust in Your rescuing power. Step into my impossible situations today, shut the mouths of my fears, and bring Your peace. Amen.
